Richard Carhart

Richard Carhart is co-leader of the European Scientific Network. He received his PhD in theoretical particle physics from the University of Wisconsin, and is now Professor of Physics Emeritus at the University of Illinois at Chicago, having taught there and done original research for 35 years. He served as an academic missionary at the University of Nairobi, Kenya, and at Charles University, Prague, and at the Czech Academy of Sciences. His interest in scientific apologetics stems from his own need to integrate his Biblical faith with the findings of science, and to counter prevailing erroneous worldviews.

Cutting Edge Issues in the Hard Sciences That Challenge Christianity

How do we handle new problems, new theories, and new issues that arise in apparent conflict to Biblical Christianity?  The playing field for scientific apologetics keeps changing year by year, but the fundamental underlying issues are the same.  If we know what to look for and focus clearly on these basic issues, we can prepare to meet the newest challenges. This workshop will use four current scientific “hot topics” drawn from physics, astronomy, and biology to exemplify a suggested methodology.  The scientific issues and results will be presented for non-specialists who have basic scientific knowledge.  Each area will be seen to have a common basis, but also specific differences.  A discussion and Q/A time will be given for each topic.
