How to Craft a Message: Teaching the Bible Faithfully and Relevantly in Today's World

Preaching and teaching within the Christian Church has undergone some tremendous changes in the last 100 years in the developed world.  Society has literally been transformed by the Technological Revolution of the early 20th century, the Digital Revolution of the late 20th century, the rise of Post-Modernism, and now the current collapse of the world economy.  It is very true that pastors and Christian teachers have a much different cultural climate that we must speak into than our ancestors ever dreamed of.  Yet human nature hasn’t changed at all.  And certainly the Gospel message is the same as it was two thousand years ago.  Focusing on the term “relevance,” this seminar will describe and define what 21st century relevance looks like for a communicator of God’s truth, as well as how a message can be crafted that is geared to the times but anchored to God’s Word.

Preaching as a Pastor

The Bible is God’s instrument of change, transformation, and, above all, grace. We should expect that whenever the Bible is opened and faithfully taught, lives will be changed and transformed. This session will consider the role that Bible teaching has in the life of the disciple and the church.  With an emphasis on TRANSFORMATIONAL Bible teaching, this session will cover precisely HOW a Bible teacher can teach and exposit the Scriptures in such a way that true life change occurs in the lives of those who hear and respond.

The Pastor’s Role as Theologian, Disciple-Maker and Leader

The Pastor is truly called to wear many hats.  We provide care; we teach; we manage; we administrate; we study; we serve; we evangelize; and on and on.  In short, we encapsulate all the various “gifts of the Spirit” mentioned in the New Testament — expected to perform each one of them with fullness and excellence.   But everyone knows we can’t do it all.  So what should our priorities be?  This pre-forum seminar will explore the three critical roles that all pastor’s must play in order to fully live out their calling and effectiveness.  With an emphasis on balance, combined with depth, we will explore what our options are and what God’s Word calls us to as those who have been entrusted to lead and care for the body of Christ.
