Talking About Jesus Without Sounding Religious
Say the word “evangelism”, and what do most Christians conjure in their minds? They automatically think it’s techniques to be used on strangers. But techniques do not motivate us at a deeper level. Nor are they effective in building authentic relationships. In this session we will explore the Incarnation as our model for outreach, our inspiration, motivation and practical guide for understanding and putting into practice: “As the Father sent me - so I send you.”
Raising The Topic of Faith Naturally
We want to be sensitive in style and authentic with nonbelievers but how do we raise the topic of faith without sounding awkward or contrived? Are there ways we can raise curiosity about Christ with those who seem disinterested or skeptical? How do we go from a natural conversation to a spiritual one without being manipulative?
The Irresistible Jesus: The Effectiveness of Seeker Bible Study In Reaching Today’s Seeker
Stephen Neill states: “The only reason for being a Christian is the overpowering conviction that the Christian faith is true.”How do we in the west faithfully, creatively proclaim the gospel in our age of relativity that denies the possibility of absolute truth? When the truth of any truth is under suspicion and the validity of gospel truth is either denied or ignored. This session will address why the tool of Seeker Bible Study is remarkably effective (with many current examples from Europe) with those of a postmodern mindset—or any other mindset!
Pre-Forum Seminar
A Fresh Approach to Evangelism for the 21st Century
Session 1: THE MOTIVATION: It’s O.K. To Be Human
This session explores how Christ demonstrates what it means to be authentically human and holy. We must learn how to celebrate our inadequacy while leaning on God’s adequacy.
Session 2: THE MODEL: It’s All About Relationships
The Kingdom of God is all about relationships. But how do we walk alongside our unchurched friends whose lives are messy without compromising our witness? What model does Jesus provide for identifying with others in love without losing our own identity?
Session 3 THE MANDATE: It’s Normal To Be Afraid
Most Christians struggle to be effective witnesses where they are placed. Many lack confidence and fear saying or doing the wrong thing. No matter how diverse the cultures, the fears we commonly hear are remarkably the same. How can we train believers to confidently share the glorious gospel without allowing their fears to silence them? How can fearing the right thing actually help us put our fears in perspective?
Session 4: THE MEANS: Raising The Topic of Faith
We want to be sensitive in style and authentic with nonbelievers but how do we raise the topic of faith without sounding awkward and contrived? Are there ways we can raise curiosity about Christ with those who seem disinterested or skeptical? How do we go from a natural conversation to a spiritual one without being manipulative?
