Andrew Basden

Andrew Basden is Professor of Human Factors and Philosophy in Information Systems at the University of Salford Business School. He employs philosophy to understand (a) what it means for information technology to be effective in human life (b) the nature of sustainability. It also provides ideas for his Christian life, commitment and theology. The philosophy he finds most useful is that of Dooyeweerd, and he is author of The Dooyeweerd Pages (www.dooy.info), though he also integrates this with other philosophical streams. Dr. Basden is co-founder of the Centre for Philosophy, Technology and Social Systems, author of 'Philosophical Frameworks for Understanding Information Systems' (2008, IGI GLobal), and coordinator of the Religious Roots in Information Systems discussions.

Shaping Your Academic Discipline for Christ

Christians often approach academia totally separately from their Christian convictions. How can Christians explicitly approach their discipline with a Christian worldview? Moreover, how can they make a contribution to
academia that is valiantly but not arrogantly Christian. On this basis, how can they work with their colleagues in the
field so that their contributions can be seen as positive? This workshop will introduce five questions that can guide Christians in making a genuine contribution in
their fields."

Integrating Science and a Christian Worldview

Some think science argues against existence of God. Others put science and belief in completely different compartments.  How are Christians supposed to think with a Christian worldview within the entire body of modern science.  How do we understand the relationship between them?  How do we integrate Christian worldview with the doing of science, so that both might benefit?  One of the resources we will bring to this workshop will be reformational philosophy, particularly the views of Herman Dooyweerd.  This session is designed for scientists and non-scientists who would like to wrestle with a larger body of knowledge."
