Equipping Christian leaders to effectively develop committed partners who will faithfully contribute critical support to organizational success

This Network’s curriculum will focus on helping leaders learn how to do development and fundraising through a variety of biblically-based principles. The aim is to encourage and equip you in equal measure: to give you the confidence to trust the Lord for your organisation’s vision and needs, and to give you the tools you need to build lasting, intentional relationships with those who share your dreams. Come prepared for a very interactive, practical series of talks with discussions and Q&A throughout, all designed to help you realise that God is right there on this journey with you.

Prior preparation will be set for all applicants.

Applicants should be those individuals interested in learning how to do development and fundraising through a variety of biblically-based principles.

Network Programme

Sunday, 22 May

Fundraising, like parenting or disciple-making, is best not done in a rush. This session seeks to take a long-term view of building a network of friends to support a ministry. It will look at a wide range of relevant biblical texts, highlighting their contrast with both secular values and with secularised Christian fundraising. Fundraising can have both positive and negative spiritual aspects, and there are both temptations and blessings for those who seek to do it.

The grace and generosity of supporters from all walks of life can sometimes completely take our breath away. The response should not be to get into a mode of somehow trying to repay them or indeed treat them differently from everyone else… and that’s certainly not what they want! This seminar, with a group discussion at the end, takes a look at what development really entails and how we can build godly relationships with our supporters and find ways to be a blessing to them on their journey.

Monday, 23 May

Did you know that your board can be one of the most significant drivers in the growth of your organisation? How would that be for you? This talk looks at ways you can work alongside your board members and, through their expertise and experience, see your organisation strengthen and expand its reach. This talk will also look at the importance of identifying new skills needed on your board as you recruit new board members, where appropriate.

One of the biggest challenges that every organisation faces is the ability to communicate well and to make the ‘Case for Support’ clear, simple, and compelling.  Do we do this well? It’s one thing to be able to share our vision well, but what about a clear case for support for all your key projects and how they fit in? This seminar looks at how we can improve on this, both in our written communications and verbal presentations, and challenges you to also equip your team to do likewise.

Tuesday, 24 May

How do you ask someone to support you financially? Should you even do that: after all, isn’t it rude and unbiblical? Is there really a good way to do this – and a right time to approach someone? And should you ever ask for a set amount of money? And how do you overcome the fear of asking for support? This seminar will be full of helpful tips and thoughts and will give you an opportunity to pose your questions and concerns.

Christian trusts and foundations can be the most incredible organisations. They exist to give grants for Kingdom purposes. Furthermore, they can help you to be better at what you do, how you present your ‘Case for Support’, and how you measure and communicate your effectiveness.  This is a very practical look at how you can begin to work with trusts, connect well, and explore whether your vision is a good match with theirs.

Wednesday, 25 May

Capital campaigns can be remarkable opportunities to raise overall awareness of your charity. They can enable your charity to grow and develop much faster than otherwise possible. They can focus existing donors on assisting above and beyond in a tangible way and can entice new donors to support the bigger picture. But how do you run a capital campaign that will succeed rather than leaving you wishing you had never started the process in the first place?

This session concludes our development journey together, picking up on what we have learned and focusing on what action points we can take home with us. Importantly, we will think through both the internal and external – what you can do to equip your team and what you can do to engage with your supporters and beyond. And then, yes, we will end with a challenge for you, too – but not the one you might expect.
